This week in our Martial Arts classes in Wiltshire and Somerset:
A few updates from Warrior Academy Instructor Martin
Update from Instructor Martin:
It’s been a week of celebrations and smiles for many students as they get awarded their new belts for well deserved gradings. In addition many were recognised for additional star awards presented for various elements of achievements in areas of respect, self control, perseverance, leadership and a few blue stars given for perfect gradings!
To all of you at the warrior academy we say well done!
In some of the new student classes the recent first gradings seemed to focus their minds on the path ahead and some discussions were held on what others have already achieved within the Warrior Academy, thoughts and feeling were given on what they wish to achieve in the future and there was a tremendous commitment reflected towards positive progress and achievements, fantastic to see!
We turned our attentions this week to confidence building and tournament training for the up coming South West Championships being held on the 10th of July, we also introduced the new students to weapons with the first week being the nunchucks. It was fascinating to see after some short initial training how students put together structured movements with incorporated kicks and strikes already learned with a short patterned nunchuck demonstration which they then performed to their fellow class colleagues with ease. This is something they would not have been able to do just a few months ago, not just for the technique aspects but the confidence to perform in front of others is a major achievement in its self and yet again underpins the Warrior Academy teaching philosophies and building of confidence.
This week we also worked with board breaking, this gives a challenge element and a chance to try out techniques learned whilst again building confidence and overcoming fear; some students at first were reluctant to try and break the board, we see this time and time again, it’s a fear of failing in front of others but with careful guidance, instruction and immediate praise and applause from the other students everyone was celebrating their success by the end of the session and they all wanted to try it again and even try harder more challenging boards…… Amazing!
This is truly overcoming fear and the excitement was clear to see in all! Well done all! …. Remember this ……
‘Fear is a choice, choose to have nothing to fear!
