Jiu jitsu teaches children how to stay calm and in control when things get close. At The Warrior Academy it is one of the five arts in our syllabus, alongside karate, taekwondo, boxing and Muay Thai, and it runs through every programme at Al Quoz, Arjan and Jumeirah Islands.
What your child learns in jiu jitsu
Children learn balance, how to fall safely, how to escape and how to stay calm under pressure. It is the art that gives children real confidence that they could look after themselves, without ever needing to throw a punch.
Our self-defence is taught through the A.C.E system: Avoid, Control, Engage. Jiu jitsu is the heart of the Control part, so children learn to keep themselves safe first.

Ground skills as children grow
Little Warriors (2 to 3) and Junior Warriors (4 to 6) start with safe falling, rolling and balance games. Senior Warriors (7 to 9) learn escapes and holds with a partner, and Pre Teens and Teens practise these with more control and pressure, always supervised. Parents can join in through our family programmes.
Calm under pressure
Learning to stay relaxed when a partner is holding on is a skill children use well beyond the mat, from busy playgrounds to exam halls. Programmes are capped at 13 so every pair is closely watched, and you get a monthly one-to-one call on your child’s progress.

Questions parents ask
Is jiu jitsu safe for children?
Yes. Children learn to fall safely and practise with control, under close supervision, in programmes capped at 13.
Is jiu jitsu a separate programme?
Jiu jitsu is built into every programme, alongside karate, taekwondo, boxing and Muay Thai, so your child learns all five in one syllabus and one belt system.
How does it help with bullying?
It gives children calm confidence. Through the A.C.E system they learn to avoid trouble first, and to stay in control if they ever need to.
